smAll and Sundry Aims

Small and Sundry

smAll & Sundry   - What it's about...

Aims of the Group:

•   To give aspiring directors an opportunity to direct a piece in a relatively low-risk, low-profile environment and in this way develop new directors for future mainstream
All & Sundry productions

•   To give aspiring actors a chance to take part in productions and venues that are less daunting than mainstream theatre

•   To enable less well-known or shorter pieces to be performed (eg: pieces written by members of
All & Sundry).  Also, pieces that may be risqué or involve only one or two cast.  Over time, a widely diverse repertoire could be built up

•   To enable actors to be involved in productions in a way that doesn’t require the time commitment of a mainstream production

•   To provide publicity for
All & Sundry by having work that can be performed at public events, functions, displays etc. that is pre-prepared and requires little by way of resources

•   To raise funds for
All & Sundry where possible (eg: providing entertainment at parties, corporate events etc.)

Guidelines for Group Activities:

•   Productions would be staged at low-cost venues such as village halls, rooms in pubs, small theatres etc.

•   Props required in any production must be minimal, provided mainly by the Director & cast

•   Sets required must be minimal, again provided essentially by Director & cast

•   Costumes are either modern day (ie: cast wear their own clothes), or “off the peg” costumes available within the
All & Sundry costume collection (ie: no special costumes)

•   Cast to be relatively small – typically no more than, say, five players.  Doubling up to be employed as much as possible

•   Back-stage crew and all other aspects of a production (eg: props) made up mostly by the players themselves

•   That
smAll & Sundry would not normally undertake productions requiring expensive licensing agreements

•   All
smAll & Sundry participants (on and off-stage) to be 16 or older and not in compulsory schooling (ie: not within Child Protection regulations)

•   Any programmes etc. are simple and low cost (eg: single sheets of printed paper)

•   Publicity is low-key, minimal cost and with no major publicity campaigns.  This would mainly be via e-mail, word of mouth, the
All & Sundry web site and other All & Sundry publicity campaigns

•   Group activities must be agreed with the
All & Sundry main committee

•   Group activities must remain within budgets agreed by the
All & Sundry main committee

•   Mainstream productions must take priority over
smAll & Sundry group activities unless agreed otherwise by the All & Sundry main committee

•   Insurance would be covered by main
All & Sundry policy

•   All performances of
smAll & Sundry to be under the umbrella name of All & Sundry
